STPM semester baru 2013 ( SEJ ) Question Interpretation

I believe to all who click in this post are onto one very own question, the curiosity and the seek for answer of the unsolved. At 1st, I had to be honest what i been through upon all the 3 semester of whole new STPM system; i couldn't had a clear picture upon the subject i am in. But right after the test, i had more clear vision upon the subject, especially for SEJARAH which there are quite less information.

well today, i had my urge to share on HOW TO INTERPRET EVERY QUESTION YOU MAY FACE.

I believe that when we open up our so called reference book, either PELANGI or LONGMAN or any others, that they are plenty of question you may see for exercise.

In Fact, as i remember there are only 2 kinds of question that would be ask. The high level Question, and the low level question.

HIGH LEVEL QUESTION refer to the question that consider of fast thinking and the question aren't asked directly. In fact, most of our reference book question are mostly LOW LEVEL QUESTION, as the question are asked directly. lets checkout some example of question i been through;



1) Nilaikan penentang orang melayu terhadap Malayan Union pada tahun 1946.
So how does this question look for you? easy right? you just need to say how the penetangan of the Malays to Malayan Union on 1946. So probably what you could think of answering this question is using all the factors you know.

BUT IN FACT, WRONG!!!!

let me tell you one thing about this question. This is a HIGH LEVEL THINKING QUESTION and you will get extremely low mark or even a markah kasihan for that kind of answer. This question requires your value upon the Penentangan and not just your silly factors. Simply, THE KEYWORD ( NILAIKAN ) are always the thing or the other keyword you need to pay attention to no matter what subject you are in. Because what we need, is someone who can ANSWER THE QUESTION and thats make the winner.

And one truth that people always CONFUSE SEJARAH as something not useful at all. In fact, HISTORY are recorded by the WINNERS, which means, the factors you aren't absolute, because every WINNERS or LOSERS have their own HISTORY and due to the FALLEN THOUGHTS of MAN, History often are recorded according to what the writers wants to write, or the Country's wants.

So there is one thing you need to know on every TEST or EXAM.
YOU WRITE THE HISTORY OF WHAT'S OUR COUNTRY WANTS TO.
and yes, you know what i means, it is involved with the POLITICS as it already is one of the elements.

On this Question, here's what you gonna answer.

on this section, write at least 3 facts about the Penentangan of Malays to the Malayan Union BUT DO NOT
put down all the factors inside. What we want here, is something that simplified what you gonna say next while not the main thing here, because this is An INTRODUCTION upon the topics.

Try to imagine this, when you are going to introduce yourself to someone, are you gonna tell her/him your everything that you had been through? You probably are nuts if you really do that. In fact, what you will do is say a "Hi, my name is who who who, and whats the profession. SO PUT IT IN YOUR ESSAY,  BECAUSE YOU ARE WRITING AN INTRODUCTION SO KEEP IT SHORT AND SUMMARIZED.

Put in at least 3 convincing real facts with the least accurate time that you are mentioning. That's right, three real facts about what happen back there. Here are my example that you may refer.

      Selepas Tanah Melayu diperintah oleh Jepun pada tahun 1943, Pejabat Tanah Jajahan British dan Pejabat India British telah merangka sebuah perlembagaan baru untuk Tanah Melayu yang diperintah di bawah Malayan Union yang ditubuhkan secara rasmi pada  1 April oleh Sir Edward James sebagai Gabenor Jeneral Pertama. Menuruti perlembagaan yang diperkenalkan dalam Malayan Union, Tanah Melayu menjadi sebuah kesatuan dan semua kuasa pemerintah akan disatukan secara berpusat. Ini telah mendatangkan tentangan daripada orang melayu secara besar-besaran sehingga rancangan tersebut akhirnya tidak dapat dikuatkuasakan. 

it is just some fact and keep it short in five to eight paragraph. Because the marking for Pengenalan only got 1 mark, but if you don't write it down, you will get 0 for the WHOLE ESSAY, yeap, WHOLE ESSAY. Because an Essay without any introduction is not an Essay. Besides that, keep in mind that your whole essay whether they stay connected or not will determine how many marks you will have. SO DON'T SIMPLY WRITE.

Now you can start spit out everything you had in already. But still, there are things you need to take note.
1) Your bahasa ( use what had learn in your BM in here yo, trust me, you need it )
2) Facts ( accurate facts you learned )
3) Values of your own opinion ( this is not from your textbook, this is from yourself. and there are not absolute answer for this so relax. )

here is some example of mine.

     Pertama sekali, penentangan terhadap Malayan Union oleh orang Melayu  adalah disebabkan persamaan hak yang diperkenalkan oleh Inggeris tanpa mengira kaum, iaitu Jus Soli, akan mengancamkan hak dan kedudukan istimewa orang melayu. Persamaan hak dan kedudukan istimewa orang melayu yang sebagai Raja dan Sultan yang pernah menjajah tanah melayu tersebut akan dicabuli atas kenalan sistem pentadbiran tersebut yang memberikan hak yang sama kepada buruh-buruh yang dibawa dari negara lain. Antara penetangan yang dibuat adalah dengan menggunakan persiaran kesedaran melalui akhbar-akhbar seperti Majlis, Utusan Melayu, dan Warta Negara serta menghantar kawat kepada kerajaan Britain di London.
Penentangan tersebut dapat dinilaikan dengan mulanya kesedaran Orang Melayu terhadap pengancaman kedudukan dan hak istimewa mereka selama ini yang akan dicabuli dan dihapus sekiranya sistem tersebut diperkenalkan. 

okay, very easy here.
1st thing, state your points and factors.
2nd thing, Introduce your factor with examples and stay connected with your statement.
And 3rd thing, put down your value upon the facts you mention. and there you go, that how you should write your ISI.

Always be reminded to be clear minded upon the requirement the question asked. There are plenty of other question you may faced more than i am.

Oh yea, btw. If you simply put anything which is not related inside, you will get 0 marks and a TR and the side of your isi. TR means TIDAK RELEVANT. so keep in mind.

This one is the most easy thing, but it is a must write or else you will get 0 mark for the whole essay and i don't think i need to example why about that. Don't worry, just stay related and everything will be fine here. Here is my example;

    Kesimpulannya, penentangan orang melayu terhadap Malayan Union telah menanam semangat nasionalisme yang akhirnya memberikan kemerdekaan kepada Orang Melayu daripada pihak penjahah sehingga pada hari ini. 

So there we go. This is one of the HIGH THINKING LEVEL QUESTION  that you might face. But still you might face the others as well. Example of LOW THINKING LEVEL QUESTION are like,

1) Bincangkan faktor perluasan kuasa asing di negeri-negeri Melayu
2) Jelaskan faktor dan kesan pembentukan masyarakat majmuk di negeri-negeri Melayu
3) Huraikan penentangan terhadap kuasa British di Negeri-negeri Melayu
4) Huraikan bentuk pemerintahahn Republik di Filipina dan Raja Perlembagaan di Thailand pada abad ke-20
5) Bincangkan ciri-ciri dan bentuk ekonomi komersial di Tanah Melayu.

While other HIGH LEVEL THINKING QUESTION would be like,
1) Nilai Sumbangan Tunku Abdul Rahman semasa pemerintahan beliau
2) Bincangkan konsep, hieraki, dan peranan institusi pembesar di Vietnam dan Thailand pada abad ke-19
3) Galurkan perkembangan perlembagaan di Sabah dan Sarawak dari abad ke-18 hingga ke abad ke-19.
